Neil Meixler began defining his sculpting techniques in dental school. While tending to a busy dental practice in Queens, New York, Neil crafted his artistic pieces in wax and then cast them in sterling silver or gold.
When he retired from practice, Neil used his newfound time to fashion pieces with Judaic themes. His grandson Eli was his inspiration. As Eli (Yaakov) approached Bar Mitzvah age, Neil recognized his grandson's Hebrew name by lovingly creating a sterling silver Torah Yad for him depicting Jacob's Ladder.
This personal endeavor became a community project when Neil was asked to lead workshops at his synagogue for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs to help them create individualized Yads for themselves. This is an ongoing program.
His Judaic pieces are original works of art and heart. They are classic, but also contemporary. This gallery of photographs exhibits styles of Meixler Judaica available for purchase. These unique designs are all solid cast sterling silver or 14k gold and are hand-carved and carefully crafted. Many of the silver pieces are accented with gold plating (vermeil).
A collection of these pieces can be seen at the Museum of Jewish Heritage and at the Jewish Museum both in New York City; The Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C; The Jewish Museum of Maryland; and in Synagogues, Judaic shops and galleries across the country.
